The Dubbo College student made 30 runs to help his side to 56-run win over the second NSW team, Magenta, in the final of the School Sports Australia 15 years and Under Championship at Brisbane on Sunday.
It was the second top score of the match, and capped off an outstanding week that also included knocks of 95 and 44 not out.
Larance said he found out about his Australian selection just minutes after his team was presented with the trophy, capping a very exciting week.
“It was really good to get picked. I was happy with how I played and I was hoping I had done enough to be selected,” he said.
Larance and his team-mates will play as an under 16 Australian invitational team at the Under 17 national championships in September, and next January they will play a Pakistan side in a five match series.
“They will be great experiences,” he said.
NSW Green won three of their four matches before friday’s game was washed out, sending them through to the semi final against Queensland.
Cyclone Debbie dropped so much rain that on Friday afternoon it was decided Saturday’s games wouldn’t go ahead.
Both NSW teams were the higher qualifiers, which meant they progressed through to the decider.
“We thought we could get on top. They were playing a few mind games, playing up the underdog tag but that was fine,” he said.
Larance came in at a tricky time, with the bowler looking for a hat-trick and NSW Green in a spot of bother at 2-15.
He denied his rival the hat-trick and played a more cautious innings, making an important 30 runs to get the innings back on track.
“I was pretty nervous, noone wants to go in on a hat-trick ball but it worked out okay,” Larance said.
“We thought 150 would be a defendable target because we had a good bowling attack. We were a bit worried when we didn’t get any wickets early but we chipped away at them.”
The Under 16s State Challenge next week is Larance’s next assignment.
