The Mudgee-based trainer dominated the racing at scene for some time during the back end of 2015 and early 2016 but since then, with a number of his stars moving up in grade, his trips to Dawson Park are less frequent.
But he was back in the winner’s circle on Thursday when Arrogant Patch took out the first race of the day.
Jumping from box five in the Glengarrie Break-In Maiden (400m), Arrogant Patch ($5.30) got out well and sat behind favourite Betty Rumble ($2.90) early on.
The leading pair streaked away from the rest of the field and Arrogant Patch took the lead in what seemed a race between two.
But Charmaine Roberts’ Hoppy Keeping ($5.10) was making ground and his chances were boosted further when the leading pair went wide around the bend.
Arrogant Patch veered so wide he bumped into Betty Rumble but he managed to push on and win by half a length from Andrew Bell’s chance while Hoppy Keeping was a further quarter-of-length back in third.
Another winner on the day was Amanda Ginn’s Fruita Dorada in the competitive Glengarrie Break-In Stakes (400m). Up against some of the more handy runners in the region, Fruita Dorada ($4.40) blitzed them.
After getting out well from box eight she quickly took took a narrow lead until the home straight when she pulled away and won comfortably from the Roberts-trained pair Rodney Keeping ($5.50) and Baracca Keeping ($6.10).
