For three days 100 Public School students participated in the Big Sing 2017, where renowned composer and conductor Paul Jarman took the students through a series of choral workshops. The last day ended on a high note when the students performed four choral pieces for hundreds of their family, friends and pupils.
Year 5 Dubbo West Public School student Charlotte Root said singing was a great way to express yourself. Charlotte said she loves singing and through the workshops had developed a love for country music.
Cooper Burtiss, Dubbo South Public School said although he didn’t really like choir singing before he came to the workshop, he had now developed a great appreciation for it.
“It’s really changed my perception on music,” he said.
Mr Jarman said it had been a great few days and was looking forward to coming back next year.
This is the third year Mr Jarman has come to Dubbo to work with a combined choir on select pieces he has composed himself.
“Not only does it give the students confidence but it also shows their dedication to hard work,” he said.
The students big performance on the Wednesday at the Delroy Campus Hall had them singing choral pieces in English, plus a folk styled Zambian song.
The English choral pieces had all been composed by Mr Jarman and focuses on Australia.
He said he hoped all the students could take away healthy techniques of singing.
