Rugby Red, who finished second on the ladder, defeated CYMS Green during Saturday’s qualifying finals to set up a major semi clash with CYMS White.
Ross Horrocks was the star during Saturday’s win, blasting a brilliant 127 not out, before a strong bowling performance was key for Rugby Red on Sunday.
The powerhouse CYMS White side was rolled for just 107 in reply to the total of 7/151 set by Wayne Munro’s men.
Brett Paul was a standout in the win, top-scoring with 38 at the top of the order before taking 3/27 with the ball to help seal the 44-run win.
Paul and Dale Smith (24) added 62 for the first wicket while for CYMS White, Shawn Townsend (2/46) was the only multiple wicket-taker.
Matt Neill knocked over both CYMS openers, Marty Nelson (5) and Connor Watts (3), as no one in the top five made it past 10.
Jerose Joseph (27) and Townsend (24) tried to get things back on track but Rugby Red was too strong.
There is the chance the two sides could meet again in the decider with CYMS White taking on clubmates CYMS Green in next weekend’s preliminary final.
After being beaten by Rugby Red on Saturday, courtesy of Horrocks’ star performance, CYMS Green bounced back with a win over Newtown Black on Sunday in the minor semi.
In a fantastic fightback, CYMS recovered from 6/50 to post 163 with tailenders Sam Thompson (37 not out), Jackson Peacock (34 not out) and Mat Sharp (36) leading the way.
Peacock and Thompson, as well as Jed McIntosh, then took three wickets each as Newtown Black was dismissed for 108.
Scott Barber (2/15) and Don Skinner (27) were among the Tigers’ best on Sunday, while on Saturday Will English (4/33), Graham Baker (47) and Brett Wrigley (34) led the way in the win over RSL-Colts Red.
Newtown Black set Colts 176 for victory, Ben Bruce took 3/40, but they could only manage 126, with Dane Cooper’s 23 the best score.
