When the service launches later this year, victims will be able to apply for government-funded help from a private lawyer in the DVP who specialises in assisting and representing sufferers of domestic and family violence.
Access to legal aid for domestic violence victims was previously subject to a means test.
LY Lawyers principal Adam Ly said the changes were long overdue.
“This is a game changer for for victims of domestic violence in the state, who have long been under-served by the legal system.
They finally have access to high quality legal assistance and representation in court,” he said.
