Police have been told a man, 59, and two women aged 22 and 54 were approached by an unknown man at a licensed premise about 8.35pm.
He allegedly threatened them with a firearm, before an altercation.
The man removed a machete from his back pack and swung it at the older woman, causing a small cut to her arm.
He fled with cash and property.
It is believed he may have left in a car described as a late model blue sedan with white coloured LED style headlights.
Police said officers from Mudgee Local Area Command attended and established the crime scene.
The man and woman suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.
As part of their inquiries, police would like to speak to a man who may be about to assist them.
He is described as being 180cm tall with a thin build and was last seen wearing black clothing and carrying a black back pack.
Anyone with information about the man or vehicle is urged to come forward, police said.
