Simmons has been paying tribute to Brooks for more than 20 years, after audiences marvelled at how similar he sounded to the modern country music icon.
The third-generation country music artist is now bringing his show to Dubbo as part of a stunning trio of tributes: Dean Simmons as Garth Brooks, wife Kim Simmons as Shania Twain and Adam D. Tucker as Tim McGraw.
Cowboys and Angels hits the Dubbo Regional Theatre stage on Wednesday, February 22.
“We have the best tribute artists I think that there are for these three artists,” Dean said.
“We’re going to cover all of their best hits and we’re going to do some duets.
“Shania’s going to help us out with some big duets and then we’ll do a big finish.”
It will be the first time any of the artists have been to Australia, let alone toured here.
Dean said he and wife Kim were looking forward to touring Australia – they’ve wanted to visit “since we were kids” – and were excited the tour would allow them to see “so much of the country”.
They had decided to tour Australia after hearing rave reviews from other tribute artists.
Dean said he had no doubt there was plenty of appetite for country music in Australia.
“The popularity of country music is I think a result of the stories in the songs and honesty in the song writing, the way people can relate to real life situations in country music and for the past 20 years or so those are three of the very top acts out there,” he said.
“Visual-wise we’ll have all the costumes that the people wear, especially as Shania comes back to do the duets she has some pretty stunning costumes and changes.
“Aside from just copying the voice we copy the movement and body language and we do our best to give an honest representation of the music that we’re playing and true tribute form. There’s imitation involved but we definitely do it with respect to the real artist.”
In recent years, Garth Brooks returned to the country music scene, and was the highest earning country music artist in the US in 2016.
Dean said Brooks never ceases to impress him with his talents, song-writing and “how he presents himself to the public”.
“My favourite thing about paying tribute to Garth Brooks is when people come up to me after a certain show and say how a certain song touched them or reminded them of a certain time in their life, or a memory or a person that they’ve lost,” Dean said.
“I think that’s a beautiful thing.”
