The summer school holidays are almost over and that means children will either be heading to school for the first time or returning to school.

While many local families would have gone away on holidays to different towns, states or overseas for some summer fun, there was still plenty to see and do in the city.
The Dubbo RSL hosted two Kids Bingo events which were a great success, as well as a free Beat the Heat workshop, where children got to have fun with facepaint and sandart before watching the movie Finding Dory.
Some of the other local attractions was of course Taronga Western Plains Zoo, who opened its Savannah Safari in early December 2016, would of no doubt been a hit with local and visiting families.
Then of course there is Old Dubbo Gaol who had a range of school holiday programs, including the interactive Twilight Tour, which began in December 2016 and a Beyond the Grave night tour, for those brave enough to visit after dark.
The Dubbo Library has been a hive of activity over the last four weeks, keeping kids entertained as they enjoy the school holidays. Activities were designed around a Heroes versus Villains theme featuring games, superhero training, peg art and digital coding and a comics workshop.
Illustrator and Graphic Designer Matt Lin did a tour of the Macquarie Regional Libraries, including Coonabrabran, Trangie, Narromine, Wellington and Dubbo, for his comics workshop.
Dubbo Macquarie Regional Library director John Bayliss said the turnout for both workshops at the Dubbo Library was very good, with about 75 people attending a total of the two sessions.
“There has been plenty to see and do here at the Dubbo Library over the past few weeks, and I think people have also loved coming in here to escape the heat,” he said.
Matt said it was nice to be back in Dubbo again for a comincs workshop where he was able to show the participants a step by step guide of drawing. He said one the aims of the comics workshop was to hopefully break down the myth that drawing is hard.
“I’ve just been showing them my drawing skills and hopefully I’ve been able to help them out with their drawing skills as well,” he said.
“Everyone has got their own style of drawing and I really enjoy seeing what other people do.”
The library’s ever-popular Summer Reading Club also began just as the school holidays were commencing, and attracted over 300 participants. It was a hot start to summer and the Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre would have been a hit with the kids and those wanting to escape the heat.
