The annual event not only is a great day out for the whole family to enjoy but recognises an array of the City’s residents at the Australia Day awards and Citizenship ceremony.
Paralympic silver medallist Amanda Reid has been named as the 2017 Australia Day Ambassador for the Dubbo Regional Council Local Government Area.
Dubbo Regional Council Interim General Manager David Dwyer said Ms Reid is an inspiration and it is fantastic to have an athlete of her calibre as the Australia Day Ambassador for our region.
“Ms Reid has competed as a swimmer and a cyclist making her international swimming debut at just age 14 when she won seven gold medals at the 2011 Global Games in Italy,” Mr Dwyer said.
“She continued her swimming success at the London 2012 Paralympic Games where she was fifth in the 100metre breaststroke.
“Ms Reid then turned her considerable talent to track cycling and after only a few months she broke an Australian Para-cycling record, an Australian record and won a gold medal at the 2015 Australian Para-cycling Championships.”
Mr Dwyer said last year Ms Reid achieved another career high when, at the age of 19, she posted a personal best time to claim the silver medal in the C1-2-3 500m time trial at the Paralympic Games in Rio.
“Sport is such an important aspect of life in the region and Ms Reid is sure to inspire athletes of all ages and abilities but her tenacity and talent will strike a chord with everybody,” he said.
“Ms Reid will give an official address at the Australia Day celebrations at Victoria Park in Dubbo and Cameron Park in Wellington.”
