The organisation has been offering services to help with domestic violence for 15 years and now, thanks to a grant from the NSW government, men’s support has been offered as a telephone service.

Housing Plus CEO David Fisher said a coordinator and staff would be recruited to operate the service across western NSW, including Orange, Parkes, Dubbo, Bourke, Walgett, Moree and Broken Hill.

Like female domestic violence, there were sensitive taboos relating to the issue, Mr Fisher said.

“We want to ensure people can be confident in us and what we can offer to them, just as we have to do with our female domestic violence services,” he said.

“The vast majority of victims of domestic violence are women and children, however some men do experience domestic violence and there have traditionally been few services to assist those men.”
