Sykes and Maher had been enjoying a fine run of form with Canberra United in the W-League and had got to second on the ladder but they came crashing back to earth on Tuesday when they were thumped 6-1 by Sydney FC.
Tratt has been a regular at right back for the struggling Wellington Phoenix this season and despite being one of the side’s best this season, he couldn’t stop the men in black and gold from going down 2-1 to Perth Glory on Thursday night.
Tratt again played the entire 90 minutes, something he has done nearly every match this season, but his side struggled after beginning the game well.
The Phoenix opened the scoring inside 10 minutes but the scores were level.
The Glory got to the lead early in the second stanza when Socceroos striker Adam Taggart struck and any chance the Phoenix had was cruelly struck after an hour when Roy Krishna was handed a controversial red card.
Sykes and Maher will be hoping they can get things back on track on Saturday when Canberra United, now third on the ladder, tackles the bottom-placed Adelaide in the W-League.
Tratt’s next match with the Phoenix is Saturday week against Central Coast.
