The $31 Million Megadraw, drawn on New Year’s Eve, was Saturday Lotto’s biggest of 2016, there were 23 winning entries across Australia that each won a division one prize of more than $1.3 million.
New South Wales claimed six of the division one prizes with the winning tickets purchased from Warren, Ulladulla, Yamba, Eagle Vale, Leichhardt and Bexley.
The man - who wishes to remain anonymous - plans to buy a new house and take his wife on a cruise.
He purchased his entry from Grindrod’s Newsagency, on Dubbo Street in Warren.
“I was lying in bed on Sunday morning when my daughter, who had a copy of my ticket, rang me up and said ‘Dad, I think you’ve won something in the Lotto!’
“Sure enough, the email message I get from NSW Lotteries that normally says you’ve won about $14 or $15, had something different this time – this one just said you’ve won a significant amount.” He said.
“When I checked my ticket and discovered I’d won $1.3 million, I was very, very happy! I was absolutely wrapt.”
“Firstly we’ll look at getting a new home. My wife wants to go on a cruise so we’ll do that but the majority of the money we’re going to just look after it. We’ll have a little bit of a spree but we’re not going to go crazy with it.”
Yvonne Grindrod, the owner of Grindrod’s Newsagency, was celebrating the exciting New Year’s Day news with all her customers.
“We haven’t sold a division one winning entry in quite a while so this this is great news.” She said.
“We’re excited to have sold the winning entry and we’re thrilled to have played a part in changing the year for one of our customers, a big congratulations to them.”
“We’re only a small town, so this win will give everyone in town a big lift.”
Six of the division one winning entries were purchased in New South Wales, with five from Queensland, five from Victoria, four from Western Australia, two from South Australia and one from Tasmania.
The six winning numbers in Saturday’s draw on new year’s eve were 11, 18, 40, 16, 4 and 31. The supplementary numbers were 17 and 38.
