Bathurst residents voiced their concerns on the Western Advocate Facebook page saying they remembered lights strung down streets in the CBD, a waterfall display at council, Santa’s in the street and garlands on light posts.
However in a response to enquiries by the Western Advocate Bathurst Regional Council have defended their decorations.
“Council has for many years decorated the Civic Centre for the Christmas-New Year period, and this has occurred for around the last 20 years,” the spokesperson said.
“This year council has taken a new approach with the decorations and has a projection of snowflakes onto the front of the building along with the large star on the Russell Street balcony.
“The decorations in William Street have not been put up since the early 1980s.”
In Orange residents said their council needed to make more of an effort in the main street.
“All the little towns in the blue mountains look so pretty. Our big towns look drab and boring,” Lizzie Peebles commented on the Central Western Daily Facebook page.

Over in Dubbo however it looks like council has gone all-out this year, with a large decorated tree at the Rotunda, free horse-drawn carriage rides and decorations up and down streets in the CBD.
Garbage bins have even been decorated to look like wrapped up presents.
