After a clinical 28 run win over the Wagga Wagga Sloggers in Sunday morning’s semi-final, Jason Ryan’s men backed it up with a thrilling 13 run win over the Northern Rivers Rock in Sunday night’s grand final.
Batting first in the decider, Orana lost Wes Giddings after a quickfire (21) but Jordan Moran (26) and Nathan Pilon (28) against stabilised things with a 44 run partnership.
The Rock kept things extrmely tight through the middle and it seemed Orana would struggle to make 150 but a fantastic 51 from 20 balls from Mitch Bower and Mat Skinner’s 23 from 10 changed the game.
The pair banged one four and six sixes between them to ensure the total was a more than defendable one.
Orana also scored 34 off the maxi over to finish at 9/188.
With the ball, the Rock fired early as some light rain fell and after 10 overs the side form the north coast was on track.
But Greg Buckley’s off-spin tightened things up as he intelligently changed his pace and flight.
He finished with 3/29 from four while Wes Giddings was another standout with 2/23 from four.
The Rock still had a chance late but Ben Patterson and Anthony Heraghty bowled a smart final two overs to secure the win and Plan B Regional Bash title.
The Twenty20 success for Orana follows on from Western Zone winning the Cricket NSW Country Championship last month.
