“We’re picking up rubbish along the river banks and we’re also poisoning...weeds that invade the riverbank,” long-time member Libby McIntyre said.
“The idea is to have a riparian zone vegetated with water plants, shrubs and river red gums.”
The group has been running for 15 years, Ms McIntyre said, retrieving hundreds of tonnes of rubbish from the Macquarie River and poisoning hundreds of hectares of weeds.
“We really want to make a difference and we want the community to understand the importance of their river,, and look after it,” she said.
