Newtown has won four matches from six this season while CYMS has won three and the next step for both sides is consistency.

The two meet at No. 2 Oval on Saturday, hopeful of stringing some positive results together before Christmas.

Newtown scored a hugely impressive win over Macquarie last weekend but only a week earlier the side had been trounced by ladder-leaders RSL-Colts.

The Cougars copped a belting from the men in red last Saturday but prior to that had won three straight.

With just one more round after Saturday before the Christmas and New Years break, and the RSL-Whitney Cup ladder being so congested, both will see Saturday as a crucial match.

Skinner brothers Mat, Steve and Tom are always key for the Tigers but Charlie Kempston, Dan Holland and Troy Tracey have impressed while for CYMS, young guns Brock Larance, Thomas Nelson and Knaggs brother Ben and Sam lead the way.
