The flights will be operated by FlyPelican, a Newcastle-based independent regional airline. The latest air link follows the airline’s introduction of two daily flights between Dubbo and Newcastle in July. Flying time on the route will be one hour on a 19-seat aircraft.
In a statement, FlyPelican chief executive Paul Graham said: “All the boxes are ticked and we are thrilled to be expanding our network to link these cities together.”
Fly already had direct flights to Canberra and Dubbo from Newcastle.
“ The objective was to ultimately continue and have a seamless service from Newcastle to Dubbo and then through to Canberra at optimum morning and evening times to support both the business and the leisure markets,” he said.
FlyPelican has a fleet of pressurised British Aerospace Jetstream 32 aircraft.
“The Jetstream 32 aircraft seats 19 passengers in comfort and style, with a flight time of just one hour between Dubbo and Canberra, which in comparison to a five-hour long drive is just so convenient,” Mr Graham said.
“We will be operating every weekday and there is potential to introduce a Sunday service if the demand is evident.”
He said one-way fares would start from $139. Flights can be bought directly from www.flypelican.com.au.
