Saturday marked the first time in a number of years every side in the CYMS club won, and Nelson’s century and 106-run partnership with Ben Williams (50) was vital for CYMS White.
Nelson was on 35 against South Dubbo Green when the first wicket fell on 43, and then he and Williams piled on the runs. Williams was out with the score on 159, before Nelson reached his milestone shortly after and then departed for 110, bowled by Shafkat Malik (1/22).
CYMS posted 7/243, and despite the best efforts of Pat Murphy (58) and Al Lloyd (35 not out), Souths Green were always up against it, with Thomas Saul (2/22 off eight) the best in the 65 run win.
James Rootes’ five wickets and Peter Karydis’ powerful performance with the bat led Rugby Blue to an entertaining win over Macquarie Blue on Saturday.
Andy Blake made 95 for Macquarie Blue but he was one of Rootes’ victims in his spell of 5/31 from seven overs. Macquarie posted 224 but Karydis got his side off to a flying start, with his first four scoring shots being three fours and a six.
Karydis was dismissed by Luke Patis (3/57) for 96 but he had set up a successful chase, and Rootes (46) capped off a fine match to help his side score a four-wicket win.
Rugby Red outclassed Macquarie White on Saturday, with Will Grant starring when opening the bowling and batting.
Grant took a miserly 1/5 from five overs with the new ball, before Macquarie White was all out for 125, with Jon Fuller (34) the top scorer. Grant then made 43 at the top of the order as his side got off to a strong start. Kieran Rosenbaum (45 not out) then led guided his side to the six-wicket win. Mark Scullard took 3/28 for Macquarie White.
A strong team performance helped Newtown Black score a convincing seven-wicket win over RSL-Colts Red.
Each of the six Newtown bowlers took wickets as Colts was dismissed for 132. Graham Baker (49 not out) and Brett Wrigley (43) put on 82 for the first wicket in reply and that set up the strong win.
A standout match from Gary Milliken was the catalyst for Newtown Gold in a 70 run win over RSL-Colts White.
Milliken top-scored with 65, while Josh Battishall made 55, in Newtown Gold’ total of 218 and he then took 4/23 from eight overs as Colts-White was dismissed for 148. Irfan Sagri (3/32 and 17) was among Colts’ best.
CYMS Green sits on top of the RSL-Kelly Cup ladder following a five-wicket win over South Dubbo Gold.
Brian Carroll, Jed McIntosh and Duncan Bourke took three wickets each as Souths posted 7/142 from 40 overs, Richie Richardson (45) and Scott Russell (40) the top-scorers. Peter Roe then made 45 to get his side going and captain Paul Suckling finished it late on with 32 not out, a knock including three sixes and three fours.
