Mat Skinner admits he didn’t expect to take the new ball and play a man of the match-winning role for the Orana Outlaws in Sunday’s Plan B Regional Bash.

Skinner, who didn’t even bowl in the round one win over the Central West Wranglers, finished with 2/16 from four overs with the new rock against the South Coast at Bowral before hitting 31 not out in a match-winning partnership with Marty Jeffrey.
“It took me by surprise a bit when ‘Pilo’ (captain Nathan Pilon) asked me to take the new ball,” he said.
“I got a bit of swing going into the breeze and they wanted Jacob McNaught and Ben Strachan to bowl with the breeze and for me to just bowl tight and the deck just suited me, it was a bit slower and got a bit of movement just on a length.”
Skinner’s day wasn’t over there, as he came to the crease with his side 7/57 and in all sorts of trouble in reply to the South Coast Crew’s 6/133.
But alongside Jeffrey, who made a classy 41 not out, he got his side across the line, largely in part to a brilliant use of the maxi over.
The pair took 30 runs off the six balls to set up the win.
“I just played my natural game and it suited Marty perfectly with the really quick outfield, he just poked it through the gaps and it went for four,” Skinner said.
Skinner’s performance was an example of the depth the Outlaws possess, with the likes of Jordan Moran, Ben Patterson, James O’Brien and Mick Curtale all missing on Sunday, and the Newtown all-rounder said that bodes well heading into the semi-finals at SCG on December 11.
