The Tigers were edged out by Macquarie while CYMS suffered a heavy outright loss to Colts.
On Saturday the two sides meet at No. 1 Oval in a one-day fixture and whoever wins the match will have done so without some standout players.
CYMS will be without four of their best players, with captain Ryan Medley and teenage talents Ben Knaggs and Thomas Nelson on Macquarie Valley duty while leading all-rounder Ben Strachan is unavailable.
Newtown will be without captain and opening bowler Mat Skinner, as well as impressive opening batsman Charlie Kempston, with both also in Orange with the Macquarie side.
Dan French will step up as captain in Skinner’s absence while Nick Guthrie will be the stand-in captain for CYMS.
“It’s a big opportunity,” Guthrie said.
“Obviously those four boys are a massive part of our side but we’ve got a bit of depth there and a few other young guys who will get a chance.”
Brock Larance is one of those younger players and the teenage opening bat showed some promising signs in round one.
Another interesting part of the match will be the expected battle between O’Donnell brothers Ben and Dale.
Both were former Cougars teammates but Dale has made the switch to Newtown and is set to debut on Saturday.
