Narromine Police responded to a Second Avenue address about 6pm and were confronted with a man wielding a large machete and advancing toward them.
Police were forced to cover the advancing man with their service firearms and negotiated with the man who put the machete down.
Police took the man into custody upon which he reacted violently and fought with police for a period of time. Police eventually over powered the man who was taken to Dubbo Police Station were he was charged with a number of offences.
The arresting police suffered bruises and lacerations but did not need to go to hospital.
