Peachey pulled on the number six jersey to direct the side around the park. They nabbed a narrow 10-6 victory over Lou Grimmet Memorial before being knocked out 40-6 in the quarter-finals by eventual winners Mavis Shipp Memorial.
Peachey scored his side’s only try in that game, and said it was terrific to be back playing with his community.
I love coming back. It's pretty awesome...with all the family. It's a good thing and I can't wait for next week, the big one.
- Tyrone Peachey
“We had a good family team, it was good,” he said.
“I love coming back. It’s pretty awesome...with all the family.
“We’ll all go home and get ready for [the NSW Knockout] next week. We're going to try and win it – why not!”
The Brewarrina Googars were also shown the door in the quarter-final round, going down to Nugget Hill Memorial 30-12.
The contest got off to a slow start, with neither side able to complete a set in the opening minutes before Kotoni Staggs got on the board for Nugget Hill Memorial.
It wasn’t long before the Broncos-bound youngster showed his class again, making an enterprising 30 metre run down the right-hand wing.
That helped set up Christopher Combridge, who muscled his way over from dummy-half just two plays later.
Once they were in the swing of things the home-side didn’t look bothered by the Googars, whose attacking prowess was let down by their defence.
Their struggle to contain the ball was evident in Nugget Hill Memorial’s third try, when four consecutive offloads put Ricky Weatherall into space moments before the half-time siren.
In the second half the Googars switched on and were rewarded, with the smallest player on the park, Kyle Ford, diving over in the left corner.
There was an identical try in the very next set as this time Deaken Boney found space on the left edge.
Sharp-shooter DJ Gordon again made no mistake with his second successful conversion from the sideline to bring the score to 18-12.
But Nugget Hill Memorial stepped up and ran in another try through Michael Peachey, before EJ Fernando broke through a stunned-looking Brewarrina line to score seconds before the final siren.
The win sent the tournament hopefuls into the semi-finals, where James Ackerman Memorial ended Nugget Hill Memorial’s Knockout 22-12.
James Ackerman Memorial went on to lose the final, while Pope Brothers in Arms took out the repecharge final.
