Work Inspiration seeks to enthuse Year 10 students about the “world of work” and fill gaps in skills in industries.

The program was launched in Dubbo in 2015 with city employers and a total of 30 Year 10 students from Dubbo College and the Dubbo School of Distance Education taking part.

Last week RDA Orana took the program further into the region after approaching Warren Central School and employers in the district.

A planning session at the school has locked in tours of three of about eight participating workplaces from late October.

RDA Orana acting executive officer Robyn Lamont said the three employers including Warren Shire Council would each host groups of students for about half a day.

About 18 students with a leaning towards “the trades” will get a “broad-brush overview” of a potential future career.

“Work Inspiration is one of our strategies to help us skill our region's young students in order to help prepare them for life after school," Ms Lamont said.

"It is an employer-led, short-term exposure to a workplace which allows groups of students to gain an improved understanding of the tasks each role performs within an organisation or industry.

“Students also hear from key staff about their career journeys, which helps to educate and inspire them about the options available to them once they leave school.”

The Warren Central School students may emerge from their Work Inspiration experience with greater understanding of the building, engineering, administration, horticulture, mechanical and agriculture industries.

RDA Orana reports of Work Inspiration winning over employers, including Crowe Horwath which took part in the program last year.

Back then a spokeswoman for the business said it was beneficial to teach students about “career paths within our industry, as potentially this could lead to employment within our company”.
