The young Roos met the Mudgee Wombats in the colts qualifying final and those at the ground were on hand to see a real tough, finals style match.
But in the end it was the Wombats who prevailed at Grinsted Oval, winning 17-12 and setting up a major semi-final date with the minor premiership winning Bathurst Bulldogs.
The Roos will now face Bathurst CSU in next weekend’s do-or-die fixture after the students accounted for Orange City 13-12 in an outstanding match on Sunday.
But that match still wasn’t as good as the first grade fixture, with Bathurst Bulldogs storming home to beat Orange City 39-34 in extra-time to set up a clash with the Roos.
The Roos and Bathurst have only met once this year, with the Dubbo side winning 32-16 way back on April 9.
