ADAM Mitchell and his scratch group counterparts were able catch the entire field and take out the final round of the Dubbo City Toyota Road Racing Series on the Wongarbon long course on Saturday.

Mitchell, Chris Couper, Mike Ticehurst and Tim Hines (all with a 32 minute handicap) were able to sustain a solid tempo throughout the 54.2km event to finish first to fourth respectively, with Darrell Wheeler (+27 minutes) able to stay with the group to finish fifth.
Alex Russell (+27 minutes), Bill Williamson (+27 minutes), Jeff Sargent (+21 minutes), Julia Graham (+21 minutes) and Max Newton (+27 minutes) finished sixth to tenth respectively.
Mitchell recorded the fastest time on the day of one hour 23 minutes 16.73 seconds (average speed of 39.05km/hour) while Julia Graham was again the fastest female with a time of one hour 38 minutes 22.08 seconds at an average speed of 33.06km/hour.
With the second placed David Gerrish in France tackling the Le Mans Shimano 24-hour cycling event, Tim Hines’ fifth placing saw him take out the overall points standing victory in what was a very consistent season of racing for the A-grade rider.
Dubbo Cycle Club will hold its annual road season presentation at Dubbo City Bowling Club on Saturday September 17 and track training will commence on Tuesday September 20. Racing will resume on Tuesday October 4, both at Victoria Park No.1 Oval.
In other cycling news, Dubbo Cycle Club’s riders and supporters were the recipients of some prestigious awards at Saturday night’s Western Region Academy of Sport presentation evening.
Dylan Eather took the top award as the Western Region Academy of Sport athlete of the year and athlete of the year for cycling after a stellar season of racing, which saw him selected in both the NSW road and track state teams and win gold at the NSW state junior track championships with gold in the under-15 keirin. Michelle Ensor was the winner of the WRAS supporter of the year for her contribution to cycling throughout the season, while other WRAS squad member Emily Watts of Bathurst took out the Chairman’s Award and cycling coach and former Paralympian Toireasa Gallagher won the WRAS coach of the year.
Meanwhile, Haylee Fuller, Luke Ensor and Dylan and Kurt Eather are ramping up their preparations for the Cycling Australia National Junior Road Championships to be held at Bendigo from September 2-4.
The Dubbo foursome have been training hard under the guidance of coaches Gus Dawson and Vaughn Eather and have been showing great improvement in recent months.
