Given a nice run behind the leader by apprentice Jake Pracey-Holmes, Hewentwhoosh ($13) overtook Ain't She A Dane (Michael Travers, $4) to win by nearly a length with Bolivian Dash (Tony Cavallo, $7) third.
Trained at Gulgong by Brett Thompson, Hewentwhoosh has recorded 14 wins and 30 places and has prize money earnings of $292,000.
Another Gulgong galloper to win at Cowra was the Emma Gill-trained Overheard, who took out the Community Chest Class 1 Handicap (1100m).
A $41 outsider, Rebeka Prest guided Overheard from midfield to rush down the outside and score half-length victory and record career win number two.
