The Tigers made it five in a row against Westside on Sunday and will now take on the competition leaders in a catch-up game in Nyngan on Saturday
Nyngan coach Bryson Warren said his team were confident they would compete with the powerhouses.
“Everyone puts in a big performance when you come up against CYMS. They are a top side and usually leading the competition,” he said.
“I think we have the good to match them at the moment and we are going into the game thinking that way. We will come out firing and we are ready for a good game.”
Unlike many other teams, including Westside, the Tigers have been able to train and Warren said that was important, because there was still plenty of improvement in the side.
“There’s still work to do, a few errors in our game but we know we can score points. Stopping the tries is our main concern,” he said. “I’m still happy with our defence, we defend well but I want to see us really stop other teams putting tries on us.”
Nyngan will go into the CYMS game with a full squad. Centre Jone Yacadrau came off during the Westside match but it was just a precaution according to Warren, and he will definitely play.
The Tigers mentor praised the club’s fans and their dedication. A large supporter base was at Caltex Park on Sunday and Warren said they were having a positive effect on the team.
“The supporters were great today, it’s the best feeling to come off the field to support like that,” he said.
“We would probably need two or three buses for our supports if they didn’t have their cars and we just love that they travel and follow us.”
Meanwhile Westside coach Robbie Dunn believes there are promising signs from his young team, despite the heavy loss.
He said the lack of training due to wet weather had affected their cohesion and led to more handling errors.
“We just have to fix up mistakes, if you can get a good set of six completed it makes a difference,” he said.
One area that has hurt the club is their lack of size across the paddock. Westside have been dwarfed by most of the forward packs they have met and Dunn lamented the lack of options up front.
“We haven’t got any forwards and it makes it hard. We are rotating centres and our hooker,” he said.
However, despite the setbacks Dunn said his team were still working away and would try to be a thorn in the side of the leading teams. “We will make it hard for any side. If the bounce of the ball goes our way we can be a handful,” he said.
