Dubbo Theatre Company has chosen 18 performers for the celebrated rock musical from a rigorous audition process.
Godspell director Jamie Foster said they were put through their paces.
“The cast were all chosen for their ability to sing parts in harmony, to be able to dance confidently and remain in character for a two-hour production,” he said.
“Godspell differs from many other musicals in that the cast arrive on stage at the start of the show and everyone remains there for the duration.
“Aside from one costume change after the first song, the cast are together on stage until the final bows.”
Dubbo Theatre Company’s Godspell is based on a 2012 Broadway production.
It features memorable songs including Day by Day, We Beseech Thee, All For the Best and Light of the World.
Mr Foster said the musical was loosely based on the Gospel of Matthew.
“The musical itself explores the establishment of a community, the bringing together of a bunch of individual people and through a series of stories, parables and songs highlights the importance of tolerance, sharing, understanding and love,” he said.
Rehearsals are midway for the show at Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre on July 29 and 30 and August 5 and 6.
The role of Jesus will be played by Allyn Smith, Judas by Greg Markwick, Anna Maria by Dannielle Foster and Morgan by Jo Gibb.
