NSW State Chair Richard McDonald and two other members will host a free ASA meeting at the Dubbo RSL Memorial Club from 2.30pm on Wednesday, July 6.
The aim will be to establish a local group with a volunteer convener to meet regularly, possibly once per month.
Mr McDonald said the local meetings provide a social, intimate, non-threatening environment where members can share investment experiences, ask questions and bounce ideas, to improve personal knowledge and education, and to build investor confidence.
One function of the ASA was advocacy, he said, with the association monitoring the top 200 companies on the Australian stock exchange (ASX 200) no behalf of about 5000 members.
“[ASA advocates] meet with the executives, they go to the AGMs (annual general meetings) and a lot of our members give us proxies to vote,” Mr McDonald said.
“Renumeration is the main problem area, the amount these guys get paid and the other part is educating people on financial matters.
“A lot of member are very well educated but they can help out our other members.”
An ASA meeting will also be held at Orange Ex-Servicemen’s Club from 2.30pm on Tuesday, July 5.
The ASA does not provide financial advice. It hopes to establish a local group in Orange and Dubbo, depending on interest.
