The money was provided to council under the Stronger Communities Fund, which is going towards councils that have undergone amalgamation.

As well as the $10 million for community infrastructure and services, $5 million will be allocated to assist with bringing the two former council systems together.

Local Government Minister Paul Toole said the projects must have both social and economic benefits to the community.

"When I talk to mums and dads across this state they tell me that they've got playgrounds that haven't been repaired for years; They tell me they've got footpaths that are falling apart; They tell me that they've got roads with holes in them that haven't been touched for years. This money can go into those projects and address those needs for each of these communities," he said.

There are nine councils pending amalgamation depending on legal proceedings and Mr Toole said if they were merged they would still receive the funding.

Dubbo MP and deputy premier Troy Grant said the money was a "shot in the arm" to fund projects or infrastructure that my not have been a previous priority.

"As the local member it is my intention to send out a survey to every household so they can fill that in and they will be able to send back to us free of charge with their ideas, their priorities and I'll supply that to the administrator for him and his consultative committee to go through," he said.

Administrator Michael Kneipp said he would engage the "wise people of council", that is the former councillors- to ensure the funding was equitably spread between the local government area.

"In both former councils there is an infrastructure backlog. It's the nature of Australia.

"We're a big area, I think there's 3000 kilometres of roads in the new regional council and there's just never enough money to have the standard of roads and that sort of infrastructure."

Mr Kneipp said he was hoping to announce the members of the advisory committee by the end of the week.
