Ginny Taylor from Coonamble was one of four people honoured, along with Trish Solomon from Braidwood in NSW, Trish McKenzie from Paroo in Queensland and Patricia Jacka from Clare Valley in South Australia.
Ms Walker, a director on the board of the Country Education Foundation and founding member of the Country Education Foundation and the local foundation in Yass, said volunteers were the backbone of the organisation.
"The Country Education Foundation has hundreds of dedicated volunteers who all work tirelessly to raise funds for the further education and training of rural and regional school leavers," she said.
"Recognising the enormous contributions of some of those volunteers is not hard at all.
"These four outstanding volunteers set a fine example of how giving back to your local community can foster bright futures for the next generation
The foundation is a national not-for-profit organisation working to provide disadvantaged rural and regional students with further education, training and career opportunities.
A major undertaking of the organisation's charity work is the CEF Local Grants program, which provides grants to disadvantaged rural and regional school leavers through 42 local foundations throughout NSW, Queensland, SA and the NT.
Since 1993 the CEF Local Grants program has enabled almost 4000 rural and regional school-leavers to purchase tools for trades, laptops, textbooks and accommodation in capital and regional cities for university and training courses.
