In a release from the company, the Bernardi Group confirmed plans for the May 1 closure of the supermarket, which is currently occupying one of the largest storefronts in the expanded comples.
"Opened in 2013 following an extensive refurbishment of the old Franklins store, the Bernardi family was looking forward to the challenge of operating a store in direct competition with Woolworths," the statement reads.
Director of the Bernardi Group, Mr Joe Bernardi, said “During our three year tenure, it was observed that a model of two major supermarkets trading directly adjacent was extremely challenging.
“The entrance of Aldi into the Dubbo market further compounded the situation and the difficult decision was made to close. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal Dubbo staff and customers for their support."
Since 1969, The Bernardi Family have been providing the people of Central West NSW with a great range of groceries in large format stores, employing more than 500 people and raising $158,862 to date for local charities and community groups though its Community Chest program.
Mr Bernardi concluded, “We are committed to continuing to provide the Central West with quality fresh food & support for local growers at our other supermarkets”.
The IGA brand will continue to have a presence in Dubbo with two small convenience stores in South and West Dubbo.
