Although a total of $4600 was taken on the day, a final figure has not yet been finalised as more donations are still coming through.
The residents of Wheelers Gardens retirement home held a garage sale on Saturday selling some of their unwanted items as well as others that have been donated from local people and businesses, all with the aim of helping the family of 11-monthold Grace Sharp.
Residents sold plants, homemade gifts such as handtowels and paintings, as well as baked goods.
A barbecue lunch also helped raise additional funds for the family and entertainment was provided by local singer Barry Joseph.
Late last year Grace was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that has resulted in her undergoing intensive treatment and multiple operations in Sydney.
Grace is especially dear to the hearts of the residents, as her great-grandmother Pat Goatcher was a resident at Wheelers Gardens for many years.
Village manager Pip Downey said to raise that much was “unbelievable”.
“We were packing up around 3pm and people were still coming through,” she said.
Grace’s grandfather Phil Goatcher said the entire family was humbled by the efforts of the residents of Wheelers Gardens and from the donations of the community.
“Grace is a very special little person,” he said.
“The residents have given everything to this fundraiser.
“It certainly makes you feel very humbled.” Mr Goatcher said every donation helps.
“Whatever is raised has come from the heart,” he said.
“The generosity of the community has been amazing.”
