The rugby league season is getting closer and the women's League Tag competition has come leaps and bounds and 2016 will see each Group 11 club field a side.
Beginning in 2011, the inaugural Western Challenge Carnival was won by Canowindra Tigers. Previous winners of the tournament include Bathurst St Pats (2012, Orange Hawks (2013) and Orange CYMS (2014/15) who are looking to win for the third consecutive year.
Dubbo Westside have been a big supporter of the carnival and the day is expected to commence at 10am with game going for 20 or 30 minutes (2 X 10 or 15 minute halves) dependant on entry numbers. All teams will play a minimum of two games.
The 2015 Western Challenge League Tag carnival attracted 13 entries from across the region and tournament organisers are anticipating similar numbers for this year's event.
The game of Women's League Tag has gone from strength to strength since its introduction six years ago and Country Rugby League Western Regional Manager Peter Clarke was glowing in its praise.
"League Tag has continued its rapid growth, the region having established League Tag competitions in Woodbridge Cup, Group 10, Group 11 and Lachlan District JRL," he said.
"In the Western Region there were more than 1,000 participants in League Tag last season, that figure is expected to grow by at least 25 percent this year."
The Country Rugby League will also introduce a formal representative pathway with the inaugural League Tag Country Championships being contested in 2016.
"The development of League Tag has allowed Country Rugby League to add a new dimension to the regional championships for 2016," Clarke said.
