The Taronga Western Plains Zoo (TWPZ) won gold in the Unique Accommodation category and silver in the Tourist Attraction category.

The Dubbo Visitors Information Centre took out gold in the Visitor and Information Services category, and the Old Dubbo Gaol was awarded bronze in the Cultural Tourism category.

TWPZ director Matthew Fuller and accommodation co-ordinator Hugh Arnold accepted the zoo's awards at the gala ceremony on Thursday night.

"To win two awards at this level is a wonderful achievement," Mr Fuller said.

"We're extremely proud of our zoo and the amazing day and overnight experiences that we are delivering to our guests."

It was the zoo's second straight win in the Unique Attraction category, and the third consecutive time the zoo has taken out an award in the Attraction category.

And while the animals are the primary attraction for most guests at the zoo, Mr Fuller said the win wouldn't have been possible without the zoo's staff and volunteers.

"We've done so much in last couple of years to make sure that we're in such a great position for unique accommodation... but if I had to pinpoint one thing I'd have to say it's the people," Mr Fuller said.

"You can spend all the money in the world, we could have the most amazing animals around it, but without phenomenal people delivering a standard that is just beyond second to none, none of it would have the success that we've been able to achieve."

Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson said it was fantastic to see Dubbo come away from a major industry awards night with four gongs.

"Great attractions, accommodation and visitor services all play an important role in ensuring the experience of every visitor to Dubbo is memorable and rewarding," Cr Dickerson said.

"The NSW Tourism Awards are presented to the best tourism businesses and services in the state.

"For many years Dubbo has taken a holistic approach to marketing Dubbo as a destination and the cooperation has lifted the standard of attractions and facilities for tourists coming to Dubbo and I congratulate all involved in winning these awards."
