HIGH winds, for most of the evening exceeded 50km/h, were not enough to deter Dubbo's track cyclists on Tuesday night, as Dubbo Cycle Club hosted the first round of the prestigious wheelrace series.

In what proved to be a battle of tactics, the men's Hattenfel's Smash Repairs four-lap wheelrace was spearheaded by the club's A-grade riders, who despite their substantial handicaps, were able to round up the limit markers and sweep the podium, with Chris Couper claiming the honours ahead of Kurt Eather, Adam Mitchell, Dave Gerrish and Tim Hines, who finished second to fifth respectively.
Catherine Fuller capped a memorable evening with two wins - the biggest being the Bettaframes and Truss women's four lap Wheelrace where she outstayed Heather Ticehurst (second), Simone Grounds (third), Sarah Granger (fourth) and Haylee Fuller (fifth).
In very testing conditions, the Eagle Boys junior four-lap wheelrace was taken out by Joe Sinclair, with Brodie Wheeler in second, Tyrone Smyth third, Zara Fuller third and Trent Hines fifth.
Lachlan Sinclair won both the D-grade four-lap scratch race and five-lap scratch race, while Jason Canobie took out the two-lap handicap and placed in both scratch races, leaving Garry Hodgess, Sarah Granger and Kevin Couper to jostle for the minor placings.
Chris Couper registered victories in the two A-grade scratch races over Kurt Eather, Adam Mitchell and Dave Gerrish, while Gerrish took out the lone A-grade handicap event over Tim Hines and Vaughn Eather.
Danny Barber, Jeff Sargent and Catherine Fuller won the three C-grade events, with Fuller and Sargent also claiming minor placings on the evening along with Craig Granger and Heather Ticehurst.
Mark Fuller made a solid return to the track winning the two-lap handicap ahead of Jason Farr and Simone Grounds, while Seamus Cahill won the six-lap scratch race ahead of Matt Fuller and Jason Farr and Sam Fitzgerald won the eight-lap scratch race over Mark Fuller and Matt Fuller.
Brodie Wheeler and Zara Fuller traded placings in the three junior development one events, with Wheeler winning the three and four-lap scratch races and Zara Fuller crossing the line first in the two-lap handicap.
Zac Fuller completed a trio of third placings across the three junior development one events.
Not only did Joe Sinclair take out the junior wheelrace, he also won the junior development division two three-lap-scratch race, two-lap handicap and two-lap-scratch race, consigning Tyrone Smyth, Trent Hines and Sophie Simpson to the minor placings.
Emily Hines rode with fine form, winning the one and two-lap junior development scratch races and placing in the two-lap handicap, while Rocco Wrigley won the junior development two-lap handicap and one-lap handicap, with Lachlan and Georgia Farr also registering podium placings on the night.
Aikie Wrigley and Jordi Low again showed some great speed and skill in the Tiny Tots racing and Jarryd Fuller, Ellie Reynen, Alexis Smyth, Taiden Adams and Cody Low rode strongly in the Super Tots division.
Club racing will continue next Tuesday night, with the second round of the Wheelrace series to be conducted on Tuesday, November 10 at No.1 Oval.
