When the airport was designed there was space for an airline to put a lounge in, Cr Dickerson said.

"At the time we had those initial discussions Qantas' profit forecasts and profits weren't exceedingly good and so they had a freeze on capital expenditure," he said. "Qantas' figures are looking better now so they've opened up discussions again in relation to that."

Cr Dickerson said nothing definite had been confirmed, but Qantas were considering the possibility of a lounge in Dubbo.

He said the company would have to crunch their numbers before they decided if they wanted to go forward.
