We are taking of course about giving up those ciggies once and for all by taking part in the Quit4October campaign.
It a worthwhile investment - just think of the money you could save at the end of every week!
But in all seriousness, it is more worthwhile to quit in October for just one reason. Your health.
And you aren't alone.
In the Dubbo region there are 6500 people that pick up a cigarette each day. Quit4October is a pilot program trialling around the country with Dubbo the only regional NSW town in the pilot program.
The program means you aren't only asked to quit for your health you are also given the support of medical professionals to help you through the tough times.
And why medical professionals? Because only one-in-20 cold-turkey attempts actually work, while with a little bit of professional help you are raising the success rate to 20 to 30 per cent of people.
Far too many people are dying because of their smoking habits, and we don't want to see our families, friends and anyone you know who smokes become one of those statistics.
If you aren't a smoker but know someone keen to quit during October, remember to be there to support them along the journey. They will be much healthier for it at the end of the month.
