Bourke Street Butchery part-owner Jason Wood, Northside Supermarket and Takeaway owner Karen Lynch and Barber on Bourke owner Shannon Thompson were concerned about losing customers due to trees being planted in front of their businesses.

"They're taking away our car parks," Ms Lynch said.

"I came to work and we're closed off and barricaded and they're digging holes."

"Trucks can't pull up to get any food and if they can't pull up they'll go somewhere else.

"I know they'll turn around and say it's one little tree but that one car park can make a hell of a difference.

"It's bloody hard to make a living."

Ms Lynch said a single car space could be for a family of five wanting to get something to eat.

"Council says it's part of the beautification program but what's beautiful about empty shops?," Ms Lynch said.

"Half of those trees they don't even look after anyway."

Mr Wood said the business owners weren't given notice about the trees being planted.

"We only worked it out when they put the dots on the road. When we rang up they said to write a letter but the next day they were here," he said.

"We couldn't even get pen to paper.

"We have 240 customers at Christmas before lunchtime, where are they going to park?"

Ms Lynch said from the markings on the ground it looked like there would be more trees.

She said she was also told by council that if she had a problem with the tree she would have to write a letter.

"That's not going to stop them planting the trees now. At least let us have a say. Once it's there, it's there."

Dubbo City Council were contacted for comment but did not respond before going to print.
