The day began with Zachary Cargo recording his first career win while in the day's main race, the Shakey Jakey @ Stud Stakes (318m), Susannah Cargo upstaged the highly-fancied Blue Thunda.
Son of champion greyhound Fabregas and Lady Cargo, and brother to the likes of Urban Cargo and Susannah Cargo, hopes were high early on in Zachary Cargo's career before a number of niggling injuries hampered his progress.
But he was back on the track on Thursday and showed he's got as much class as his brothers and sisters on his way to winning the Coolabah Goat Company Maiden (400m)
"We had him ready for the ANZAC Carnival and he was really running good times but he broke a toe the week before and it took a while to get that going and then one little thing after another, little nagging things," Steel said after the win.
"His toes kept playing up and hasn't been putting it together."
While the victory was impressive on Thursday, Steel confessed Zachary Cargo may never reach his potential after all the setbacks.
While his brother Urban Cargo has been winning races in Victoria, Zachary Cargo has been struggling to get on the track and Steel admitted the injuries have taken their toll.
"His times aren't up to where they were before he did his toe," he said.
"He was running very similar times to what Urban was but his times are down and I don't think he'll ever get back to that now but you never know, time will tell.
"This is a breakthrough for him, he's been trying hard and that's all you can ask for."
While Steel was pleased with Zachary Cargo's run the best was yet to come with Susannah Cargo taking out the final event of the day.
All the pre-race attention was on star sprinter Blue Thunda ($1.90), boasting an incredible record of 18 wins in 21 starts, but Susannah Cargo ($3.90) got the jump early from box eight and never looked back.
Blue Thunda showed real fight down the home straight as he pressured the Steel sprinter but Susannah Cargo had to much pace and held on for a half-length win.
It was the leading two and then the rest as third place went to Tassie Wayne ($23.80), six-and-a-quarter lengths further back.
"They've all won, there's not a bad one in the litter and it's the best litter I've ever had, there's no two ways about it," Steel said of his litter.
