The $7 million redevelopment and enhancement of the Gulgong HealthOne facility project was completed last year, and links the new Gulgong MPS to Gulgong HealthOne, which provides primary and community care, as well as an emergency care service.
In addition to the provision of residential aged care, the new MPS provides six high-care residential aged care beds, dementia services, diversional therapy, and a patient lounge and courtyard to allow patients to meet with visitors.
There are also four sub-acute beds, two treatment beds in the emergency department and clinical and operational support services.
The former Gulgong hospital closed in 2010 because of workplace safety risks, a lack of security and the presence of asbestos.
Construction of the MPS was funded by the state government with the federal government providing recurrent funding for its residential aged care services.
Parkes MP Mark Coulton said the Gulgong MPS is a great example of co-operation between state and federal government.
"I would like to commend the people of Gulgong who lobbied very hard for this facility after the previous hospital became unsuitable for use," he said.
