So it is no surprise a group of willing residents and dance professionals took to the floor on Friday to dance like crazy to raise funds that will ease the plight of cancer victims.
The Stars of Dubbo "Dance for Cancer" event raised $51,000, which will be donated to the Cancer Council NSW.
It was a huge amount from one event - particularly given it was the first time it was staged.
It was a huge gift from all the performers, the organisers, judges, sponsors and volunteers.
It was a huge reminder of the giving nature of so many Dubbo and region residents.
And it will make a difference to some lives.
Sufferers have to deal with the devastation of the illness, the bleak mental and emotional impacts, the rigours of heavy treatment regimes, and, all too often, financial impacts.
Their loved ones share the emotions, the fears and uncertainty. The impacts on families are immense.
The Cancer Council is the main support for cancer sufferers and their families. It lobbies strongly on issues that affect them. It pushes government to improve the assistance (financial or otherwise) given to them. It is their first and last stop for help.
It needs and uses every cent it can raise.
Applause please Dubbo for the dance crowd that now joins the honour roll.
