Dubbo Chamber of Commerce president Matt Wright unveiled the 20th anniversary plans during last night's Rhino awards launch.
"Dubbo has been built on the passion and commitment of people who were not only great visionaries but were also committed to our community," Mr Wright said.
"This year the Chamber will honour those people who not only contributed strongly to local businesses but also to the local community.
"Looking ahead we'd also like to acknowledge those businesses who will lead the city into the future by harnessing the power of the internet."
The winner of the first Gold Rhino Award was Dubbo City Toyota, which put Dubbo on the international map by receiving the Toyota President's Award for Excellence a record 14 times.
The Chamber will also recognise the iconic Dubbo families which have their roots in the early days.
The first winner of the Emile Serisier roll of honour was iconic Dubbo newsagent Joe Snare. Over the years it has been won by Peter Milling, Frank Brennan, Roger Fletcher and Wally Flynn.
"Dubbo is a unique regional city that has grown on the back of local business and I believe it will continue over that path in the next 20 years, particularly on the back of an increasing population and the opportunities presented by technology and the internet," Mr Wright said.
