Mr McArdle, who now lives at St Anne’s Nursing Home at Hunters Hill, has been recognised for his wonderful dedication to the communities of Orange and Molong with an Order of Australia Medal in the General Division.
Mr McArdle became an voluntary ambulance officer in Molong in 1949, a role which he continued to do until 1966.
From that year until 1993 he became a full-time ambulance officer based in Orange.
From 1947 to 1966 he made an important contribution to Molong as a volunteer firefighter and from 1966 to 1976 was a retained firefighter.
His involvement with St John Ambulance began in 1949 and over the years Mr McArdle was a voluntary trainer and examiner based at Molong and Orange.
Another role which he relished was that of secretary of the Molong Ambulance Committee from 1950 to 1966 and through his emergency services experience he was invited to be a member of the Orange District Accident and Emergency committee from 1982 to 1993.
