Dubbo City Council's road safety officer Jayne Bleechmore and Dubbo Rescue Squad representatives manned a community awareness stall on Macquarie Street as motorists signed their pledges.
"We can all take action to prevent road trauma by sticking to the speed limit, driving to the conditions, keeping our hands off our phones, not driving tired and not driving after drinking," Ms Bleechmore said.
"It's a national day, in its ninth year but this is the first time Dubbo has done the day like this.
"We're calling for people to change their decisions, their actions and their behaviours on the road."
Ms Bleechmore said statistically, speeding was the biggest killer on the roads, while fatigue and drink-driving were also contributors.
Dubbo Rescue Squad spokesperson Leah Wells said the event was about making members of the community aware their actions had a very big effect on the road toll.
Fellow Dubbo Rescue Squad member David Chenhall said squad members were pleased to be a part of Fatality Free Friday.
"If we all work together and have one less fatality then we have saved one family from all that associated grief," he said.
