The Shell Questacon Science Circus team is bound for the city with a load of exhibits packed in their semi-trailer aimed at amazing the public.
As they make the ice cream, hold fire in their hands and complete other activities they will heat up a bid to bring the best of the best future scientists from across Australia to Dubbo.
The team has been booked make a special presentation to a dinner organised by the combined Rotary and Rotaract clubs of the Dubbo region on Wednesday night.
The event has been planned as a fundraiser to support a bid to bring the national Science and Engineering Challenge for high school students to Dubbo in 2017.
The challenge focuses on inspiring students to consider a future career in science and engineering by choosing to study sciences and mathematics in their senior years.
Dubbo missed out to Hobart for the 2016 hosting rights, but the Western Plains Science and Engineering Challenge committee was not deterred.
"We believe we've got a very good chance of hosting it in 2017," committee member and Rotarian Peter Judd said.
The national challenge would bring state finalists - "the best of the best" - to Dubbo to battle it out, and hosting would provide a bonus.
"If we secure the bid we are guaranteed a place for one of our local schools to compete at the national level," Mr Judd said.
Mr Judd invited all members of the public to attend the dinner at the Macquarie Inn, which would include a two-course buffet dinner and "a spectacular science show" for "a really fun and entertaining" night.
