St Mary’s were impressive all day and cruised past fellow Dubbo school St Laurence’s 36-4 in the year 5 and 6 decider to head into the June 24 finals day as one of the real favourites.
Mudgee’s Cudegong Valley Public School took out the years 3 and 4 Richardson Cup final, defeating Dubbo’s St Pius X 20-12 in an entertaining match.
It was a record turnout for a regional gala day at Dubbo and competition convenor Mick Armstrong was delighted with the day’s action.
“It’s been really good, it’s the biggest one of these we’ve ever held and there’s over 50 teams,” he said.
“There’s a lot of good kids here, St Mary’s are obviously a handy side in the years five and six competition but every kid who’s come out and played has showed some talent and it’s good to see so many kids playing footy, there’s over 500 here in one day so it’s awesome.”
All four teams who made Tuesday’s finals have qualified for the June 24 finals day and Armstrong has no doubt they could mix it with the best.
