Make-A-Wish volunteer Karen McMullen said the aim of the garage sale was to raise about $600, but by lunchtime the figure was around $1,500.
"There were 100 people at the gate about 8 o'clock. There was a mad rush because we've been advertising so people knew what they wanted," Ms McMullen said.
The Dubbo Make-A-Wish branch hold four or five of fundraisers every year, but Ms McMullen said this was the first time they had held a garage sale.
"We've raised more money from this than we've raised at any barbecue," she said.
The money raised from the event will help the foundation to grant wishes to children with life threatening conditions.
Volunteer Lyn Allen said there was currently three children from the region waiting to have their wishes granted.
The Make-A-Wish volunteers said they were very grateful to everyone who donated goods for the garage sale and to the family who hosted the event.
The next Make-A-Wish fundraiser will be a family ten pin bowling night on June 13.
