Ms McAnally coordinated Graffiti Removal Day for Narromine, Bourke, Wilcannia and Broken Hill, which was made possible by the support from Centacare and Rotary.

Ms McAnally played down the role she played in organising the event, however she did express how valuable the day was on a number of fronts.

"I was shocked when I heard of the award but also very proud," Ms McAnally said.

"It really was a great community event and everyone who took part really enjoyed it and got great satisfaction.

"Everywhere the graffiti was removed from obviously looks a lot better which is a great thing and at no cost to the taxpayers."

Despite Ms McAnally downplaying her contribution, Mr Grant was full of praise of her efforts and the overall success of the event.

"People just like Ruth McAnally who are committed to a cause like Graffiti Removal Day deserve recognition as their efforts make a real difference in our communities," the Deputy Premier said.

"The day was a great success and was widely supported and I thank her for her hard work and dedication."

The cost to NSW taxpayers for the removal, prevention and repairing the damage associated with graffiti is tens of millions of dollars each year making initiatives like Graffiti Removal Day all the more important.
