The Yowies came out on top 67-46, but Rams coach Tim Griffiths said the local boys didn't go down without a fight.
"We lost the game but I thought that it was actually not a bad effort. I was quite happy with how we played defensively," Griffiths said.
"We've still got a bit to go offensively, but we're starting to look like we know what we're doing."
Griffiths said it was the side's first-half performance that let them down, while they stepped up in the final two quarters to prove that they really can stick it to bigger teams.
"Score-wise we actually won the third quarter 15-9, and the last quarter it was pretty even - we scored 11 and they scored 12," he said.
"We were a bit slow to start but that third quarter showed that the boys can put it to the [opposition] once they get started."
Hayden Howell and Jordan Wheeler supported the team well as the two point guards, while "Kristjan Reinhold had a good game in the centres".
Adam Wheeler also impressed, scoring four points on debut.
"We hope to see more of him when he's available," Griffiths said.
He said the team had improved out of sight, and was "on track to do pretty well" in 2015.
"We're going to continue working on our motion offence - we've got a good knowledge base set down and now were going to be working on the intensity and passing aspects, that's where we're going to be going as a team."
"This team is still learning exponentially and if we can continue to do that this season I'll have met one of my goals - to lift everyone to a standard that we can be competitive this year, and in the years to come."
The next Rams game will be at home against Liverpool Spartans on Saturday, May 2, tip-off at 5pm.
"Should be a good game that one," Griffiths said.
"That'll be a good game and I think if we can put enough work on the training floor I think we could give Liverpool a good shake up."
"I'm pretty pleased with how far the team has come this year. It's been a pleasure to watch."
